New Palimony Law in New Jersey with Stephanie Hagan, Esq

 <itunes:subtitle>MSG-Hagan(Interview)_program_master</itunes:subtitle>
<itunes:summary> In recent years, we have seen an increasing number of cases dealing with palimony. Palimony has long been based on the law of contracts, where an oral promise can be enforced if a party relies and acts on it to their detriment. But a new law in the State of New Jersey came into being during the last days of the Corzine Administration, requiring that in order for a palimony agreement to be enforceable, it must now be in writing and be executed with the independent advice of legal counsel. This bill will now require people to first register their intent to provide support by signing an agreement, just like in a civil union. In this broadcast of Forensic Perspectives, forensic accounting expert, Mark S. Gottlieb, discusses this issue with New Jersey matrimonial and family law attorney Stephanie Hagan of Donohue, Hagan, Klein, Newsome and O'Donnell PC. About Our Guest Stephanie Hagan, Esq. is one of the founding partners of the Morristown, New Jersey law firm - Donahue, Hagan, Klein, Newsome and O'Donnell PC. Ms. Hagan has practiced Family Law exclusively for more than 23 years. Her firm specializes exclusively in the practice of Matrimonial and Family Law, making it one of the largest specialty firms in New Jersey. Six members of the firm were listed in Super Lawyers- New Jersey Edition. As a frequent lecturer and panelist, Ms. Hagan regularly speaks on a variety of family law topics. She is often appointed as a mediator by the courts throughout the state, and she also handles private mediations. She is a member of the Executive Committee of the Family Law Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association, and is a member of the Fee Arbitration Committee for Morris County. </itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary> Reaching a divorce settlement can often be a difficult journey. Often, it is the most stressful time in one's life; however, if approached correctly the divorce process can proceed in a human fashion. The first crucial step in any divorce action is for the professionals involved to obtain a clear understanding of the financial components of the couple. This objective includes learning who earns what, and what are the assets and liabilities of the couple at the time they have decided to divorce. Whether the divorcing couple is of modest or extreme means this process of obtaining information and documents from each spouse as well as non-parties such as employers, banks and physicians, etc. should not be overlooked. <itunes:summary> The recent four billion dollar acquisition of Marvel Enterprises by the Walt Disney Company was one of the major business stories of last year. Whether being in business with Marvel will help Disney's bottom line and increase shareholder value remains to be seen. Even with Disney's careful valuation of Marvel's assets, which include a library of over 5,000 characters featured in a variety of media, and businesses that include licensing, film production, and publishing, the risk is a great one. Disney will not see the full benefits of the acquisition for quite some time. This begs the question, Will the likes of Spiderman, The Fantastic Four and Iron Man help the mere mortals at Disney and its shareholders? The answer to this question may rely on how accurately risk was evaluated in this transaction. In this broadcast of Forensic Perspectives business valuation expert, Mark S. Gottlieb, discusses the three types of risk often considered in a business valuation analysis. These risks are often defined as: Business Risk, Financial Risk, and Liquidity Risk. </itunes:summary>
